Patisserie Margo

I visited this patisserie in Edina, I went with my cousin who is also a macaron enthusiast. The service was very friendly and I was delighted to see such an assortment of colors that were typically not the traditional macarons. The flavors were (as followed, by the color sorted tags that I am slowly getting better at documenting at!)

Salted Caramel + Sea Salt

Orange: Dreamsicle (orange flavored frozen treat usually with ice cream middle)

Darker red/purple color: Raspberry + Ganache (a chocolate glaze made with chocolate and cream)

Light purple: Lavender Honey

Green: Pistachio +White Chocolate

White: Vanilla Latte

First, I would like to say this is a unique selection of macarons, and if there are an assortment of flavors, it is only fair I try them all to give them all proper judgement. What I look for in a macaron is how light it is, the quality (how fresh), taste, and after taste are all important. My cousin and I were very thorough with this batch, as we found it necessary to really talk about each one and really describe them as much as we can. Without further adieu, I give you the Patisserie Margo Macaron Review:

First: price. To try one of each costed 11-12 for a box of six. 1.95(?) each- which is over priced in my eyes- my previous post about the bakery inside cosetta's costed 8 dollars for a box of 6- which is way more reasonable.

Each individual macaron review:

Dreamsicle: delicious! the orange flavor was not overbearing, light cream in the middle and it was very light. This one was a definite instant love. Which is surprising because I typically do not like fruit flavored baked goods. 4 out of 5

Pistachio: A big let down. I bit into it and it was chewy. Gross and chewy. The white chocolate middle was bizarre and did not compliment each other. The pistachio flavoring was terrible and had a horrible after taste. This one did not seem fresh at all, simply gross.  0.5 out of 5

Lavender Honey: This one was an odd one. It had all the good qualities of a macaron (fresh, light, and crispy outside and light insides) but the big turn down was taste. It tasted like soap, with an even more powerful soapy aftertaste. 0.5 out of 5

Raspberry: The chocolate filling over powered the raspberry. It had all the good qualities of a macaron, but it was the richer of the six. Overall pretty good. 3 out of 5

Vanilla Latte: Very light, this one definitely got the tastebuds excited. This one had a good vanilla taste with a hint of a latte cream. Delicious. Fresh as well, I think this one could levitate if it needed to. 4 out of 5.

Sea Salt Caramel: This light blue beauty was definitely worth saving for last! This macaron was to die for! Decadent caramel taste with parable sea salt (but not too much or over powering). I absolutely love this flavor, for gelato, cupcakes, and now this savory macaron. This blue beauty gets a 5 out of 5, it also was fresh and very light.

Overall, this place gets a 2.5 out of 5. They had good macarons, but it is also pricey, but since the good ones have been lifted out of the crowd, I now know which ones to get in the future, but might not be worth going back.

thanks to my cousin Anna for her input!

Try for yourself! but proceed with caution:

Patrick's Bakery & Cafe

Patrick's Bakery & Cafe fas a few locations, I went to the one in Richfield (close to southdale mall on 66th) and picked up a few Macarons. I have had them many times, because Patrick's was one of the places I found after returning from Paris that had them.

I got pistachio, caramel, and chocolate. These are BIG macaroons. Big. They are also 2$ each, which is pricey for a parisian pastry, but then again they are bigger than most, which in my opinion I do not like, because it really is a lot for one (they are good to split). They also have raspberry, and sometimes a lemon.

The pistachio ones are always a mystery to me, some are filled with a pistachio cream, but this one had a chocolate center (surprisingly delicious!). The caramel and chocolate were okay, nothing really special I can point out about them, they were simply okay.

I give Patricks 3 out of 5 macarons.

Go out and give them a try for yourself!

Why Michelle & Macarons?

Why start a macaron blog? Why such a specific dessert?

Last Spring, I got the opportunity to go to Paris on spring break for a class, Art in Paris. I have had macarons before once in a great while, but France is where the best of the best macarons are.

You don't know how many times I got a box of them at the scattered McDonald's in Paris.

There were so many other bakeries (countless) that had so many different kinds of macarons!

After I got back, I was searching for places that had macarons. A year later and still searching and tasting, I decided to start this blog, dedicated not only to finding places in the twin cities (or other places that I may happen to go to) but everything macaron! Fashion, DIY, accessories, etc!

Pasticceria

Pasticceria is located in the famous Cosetta's in the heart of Saint Paul. I have never been there before, so that was a great eating experience. I compare it to Cafe Latte (which is equally delicious, but not as adhered to italian food).

Back to the macarons, Pasticceria is a very clean, fancy bakery. I was first a little scared of the prices (the boxes of macarons said 30.00/lb, yikes!) I ended up getting a box of six (that is how many different kinds they had). It came to be around eight dollars (I learned that it was 30.00/lb and it cost more to have them put in a fancy box with ribbon, I didn't need to feel all that fancy— nor do I have that kind of money).

There was a lemon, pistachio, chocolate, vanilla, wine, and a vanilla with a fruit middle (raspberry or strawberry)

I ate the lemon one first, I haven't had a lemon one before, it was amazing!

The others were equally as delicious, I was skeptical about the wine one, but that one was my favorite out of all of them, it had a unique flavor for a dessert and I could tell it was wine without being overbearing.

To be completely fair, it was a little pricey, but I think it was worth it, because they were good. I would definitely say that this bakery cares a lot about precision and quality.

I give them 4 out of 5 macarons.
